A camera assistant died on the set of the popular TV show Anupamaa after being electrocuted during filming on November 14. Vineet Kumar Mandal, 32, from Bihar, was handling technical equipment when he came in contact with a live wire. He was rushed to the hospital but died while being treated.
The production house behind the show, Rajan Shahi’s Director’s Kut Productions, has yet to release an official statement regarding the tragedy. Meanwhile, the President of the All India Cine Workers Association (AICWA), Suresh Gupta, has condemned the production house’s silence over the incident.
“Anupamaa has been shooting for a few years now. However, on November 14, there was an incident on the set where one of our workers, Vineet Kumar Mandal, 32 years old, who worked as a camera assistant, passed away after getting electrocuted during the shoot,” he told Screen.
He added that the makers of Anupamaa and the channel are trying to suppress the matter. “The channel, producer, and production house have been trying to suppress the matter. False news was spread, but such incidents keep happening every time on sets. Workers die, whether through electric shocks or due to a set fire. This happens because production houses and channels don’t provide enough safety precautions to save a few pennies,” he added.
Suresh Gupta also called for an investigation into the incident and compensation of Rs 1 crore for the deceased’s family.
Anupamaa is a popular Star Plus TV show that premiered in 2020. The series follows the story of Anupamaa, a homemaker portrayed by Rupali Ganguly, who embarks on a journey of self-reinvention after her husband’s betrayal. The show explores her path to personal growth, self-discovery, and the challenges of balancing family and career.
The show has consistently topped TRP charts for years. However, recently, the show’s lead actor, Rupali Ganguly, became embroiled in a controversy after her stepdaughter levelled accusations against her, alleging that she broke up the family.
