Banco Crédito y Ahorro Ponceño was founded on January 1, 1895 and was one of the most successful and prosperous banks of the 20th century in Puerto Rico. It was the first bank in the Town of Ponce and one of the first two native banks on the island. In 1924 they built their symbol headquarters on Marina Street and Callejón Amor in Ponce. This iconic branch is still standing in the historic area of Ponce and was declared a historic monument and included in the Register of Historic Places.
The prosperity of this bank resulted in the opening of multiple branches around the island. Its promotional slogan was: Banco Crédito and Ahorro Ponceño: the bank of the big one and the small one. It operated for more than eight decades in a successful way until in 1978 it collapsed economically.
With the assistance of the FDIC, its assets were sold to Banco Popular de Puerto Rico and Banco Español Santander, which acquired 14 branches. Today a Banco Santander branch occupies the building built in 1924 in the center of Ponce.

Just a quick guide to the postcard grading standard we use: MINT: A perfect card just as it comes from the printing press. No marks, bends, or creases. No writing or postmarks. NEAR MINT (NM): Like mint but very light aging of very slight discoloration from being in an album for many years. Not as sharp or crisp. EXCELLENT (EX): Like mint in appearance with no bends or creases, or rounded or blunt corners. May be postally used or unused and with writing and postmark only on the address side. A clean, fresh card on the picture side. VERY GOOD (VG): Corners may be just a bit blunt or rounded. Almost undetectable crease or bend that does not detract from overall appearance of the picture side. May have writing or postally used on the address side. A very collectible card. GOOD (G): Corners may be noticeably blunt or rounded with noticeable slight bends or creases. May be postally used or have writing on address side. FAIR: Card is intact. Excess soil, stains, creases, writing, or cancellation may affect picture. POOR: Self-explanatory, sold as-is.
